Year Four – Blog

End of Half Term

Goodness me, half term already ….

The children have worked extremely hard this half term. Unfortunately, there have been some nasty bugs going around so hopefully these will all have cleared up and the children will be raring to go again on Monday 20th February.

In science, we have spent a lot of time making circuits and understanding how they work. The children have also investigated conductors and insulators. They know which of these will allow the electricity to flow through and which will break the circuit.

Electricity – Circuits

This afternoon in science, the children have been making circuits in order to make a lightbulb light up …

They drew their circuits and then learnt how to draw a diagram of the circuit using the appropriate symbols. They then investigated what would happen if they changed components of the circuit.

Problem Solving Day – December 2016

I apologise sincerely for taking so long to get these photos onto the blog …

I was unable to do them from my home computer and we have struggled with the internet over the past couple of weeks.

In December, the children attended a problem solving day at Mount Grace School. The children thoroughly enjoyed the day and the experiences it gave them. The students at Mount Grace School who devised all the activities and ran the sessions were extremely professional. The children wrote thank you letters to the students which were sent to the school. Mount Grace contacted me to ask for permission to anonymously quote extracts from two of the children’s letters. These have been included in the latest Mount Grace News Letter. I would particularly like to thank the parents who came along to Mount Grace, without which, we would not have been able to attend.

Class information

We have had a fantastic fortnight looking at a variety of different poetry styles and the children have enjoyed writing their own narrative poem …

We have been using the vocabulary the children have been learning during their weekly spellings to support the children’s learning.

Over the next few weeks we will be focusing our Literacy work on another great text, Oliver Twist.

Please click on the link below to see our new and updated class information sheet, however if you need anymore information please don’t hesitate to contact any of the year four team.

A chilly start

We certainly have seen a variety of weather of the week, however it has not dampened the spirits in Year 4 …

We have had a great week looking at various forms of poetry. The children have really enjoyed creating their own poems and have produced some great work.

Next week we are going to be writing a poem based on The Three Little Pigs, this should be lots of fun and will get their creative minds working overtime.

The children all received their copy of the homework grid but just to ensure it got home here it is.
